Diemelsee-Staumauer
Monument
Diemelsee-Staumauer: 42 m high. Built of sturdy diabase, it protects against flooding and supplies water to the Mittelland Canal.
Properties:
It was built of greenstone (diabase), a rock that is highly resistant to weathering, which was quarried just below the summit of the Eisenberg, rising to the right of the dam.

The Diemel Dam is not used for drinking water supply. When the Weser River’s flow is low, its purpose is to supply water to the Mittelland Canal. Another purpose is flood protection.
