Diemelsee: A Natural Gem

Lake Diemelsee is a true natural gem. It is idyllically situated in the countryside, with the peaks of St.Muffert and Eisenberg rising like landmarks along its shores. Anyone who climbs up there is rewarded with a breathtaking view of the glistening water. The excellent water quality ensures an abundance of fish, which is why the reservoir is very popular with anglers. Numerous circular and long-distance hiking trails form a network around the lake, the best known of which is the Diemelsteig. Cycling here can be as challenging as it is relaxing; for example, a leisurely bike tour around the lake is very family-friendly.

At the beach areas, visitors can jump right into the water—and they don’t even have to leave their four-legged friends behind: Diemelsee has two designated dog beaches. New additions are the trekking campsites along the Diemelsteig and Uplandsteig trails, which turn a camping experience close to nature into a cozy adventure. There’s also plenty to discover around the lake: visitor mines, monasteries, a special nature park interactive exhibition called “Visionarium,” an adventurous (mini) golf course, and much more.
