This easy tour starts right at the train station in Meschede. The route crosses the Ruhr Bridge, goes through the newly redesigned pedestrian zone (please walk your bike here) to Kaiser-Otto-Platz, and continues along Steinstraße, where you turn into Hennepark at intersection 23.
Alternatively, instead of going through the pedestrian zone, you can ride along the beautifully landscaped Henne Boulevard. This route leads from downtown along the small Henne River, past the district administration building, through Hennepark, and on to the Himmelstreppe (Stairway to Heaven), which you can climb (on foot) to the dam.
Continue along the car-free Randweg path beside Lake Hennesee. The lake’s eastern shore is wonderfully peaceful and is reserved exclusively for walkers and cyclists. Right at the start, it’s worth taking a detour to the “SinnePfad” (Sensory Trail).
At the end of the lakeside path, the route does not turn toward Mielinghausen via the bridge, but instead follows the road past Gut Horbach to the half-timbered village of Remblinghausen. From Remblinghausen, follow the well-maintained bike path back to Meschede.

Safety guidelines
An emergency stop system has been installed throughout the region (Soest District, Hochsauerland District, Märkischer Kreis, Olpe District, and Siegen-Wittgenstein District). You can find emergency stops, among other places, on the information boards at the intersections of the Südwestfalen bicycle network.

A stop at Lake Hennesee and its sunbathing areas is a refreshing way to cool off, especially in the height of summer.

Public transit
There are excellent rail connections to Meschede. There are regular trains from Kassel, Dortmund, and Hagen.
How to get there
Meschede Train Station
From the west: Take the A44 to the Werl interchange. Continue on the A445 and A46 toward Arnsberg/Meschede. Take the Meschede exit.
From the north: Take the A2 to the Rheda-Wiedenbrück exit. Continue on the B55 toward Lippstadt/Meschede.
From the south: Take the A45 to the Olpe exit. Continue on the B55 toward Meschede.
Parking
Under the Antonius Bridge at the train station in Meschede or at the P&R parking lot on Lagerstraße. There are also free parking spaces on Kolpingstraße.
