Quick Overview: Sauerland-Höhenflug
The long-distance hiking trail runs right through the Sauerland-Rothaar Mountains Nature Park and, along its various stages, connects numerous sights, attractions, and natural features.Nature lovers can enjoyfascinating nature experiencesin the deep forests, in the raised bogs on the slopes of the Ebbe Mountains, in the vast pastures of the Upland, on the Hochheide of the Kahler Asten, or in the mountain meadows of the Medebach European Bird Sanctuary.Possible starting points for the Sauerland-Höhenflug include the Meinhardusschanze in Meinerzhagen, Burg Altena with its World Youth Hostel, or Korbach with its romantic Altstadt. But the Sauerland-Höhenflug offers far more than just fascinating landscapes and a magnificent natural idyll. In the towns along the Sauerland-Höhenflug, cultural and industrial history lives on today just as much as traditional rural life. Museums invite visitors to explore the region’s history, industry, and crafts.Recharge your spirits and find new energy on the Sauerland-Höhenflug—thanks above all to the incomparable panoramic views. Whether from the heights around Altena, from the Robert-Kolb-Turm on the Nordhelle, from the Hunau or the Kahle Pön near Düdinghausen, whether from the Quitmannsturm near Neuenrade, the Schomberg Tower near Wildewiese, the tower on the Kahler Asten near Winterberg, the Heidkopf Tower near Hallenberg, or the Georg-Viktor Observation Tower near Korbach—everywhere, hikers are rewarded with countless panoramic views! And anyone who lets their gaze wander over mountains and valleys, over idyllically nestled villages, over forests, meadows, streams, rivers, and lakes will realize: The only thing better is flying!
No special equipment is required; sturdy shoes, rain gear, and a packed lunch are recommended
In an emergency, every second counts! That’s why the Sauerland-Höhenflug is equipped with emergency signs along its entire length. The green-and-white plaques, which are attached to the signposts, feature a number that you can provide when making your emergency call. This allows emergency responders to know exactly where you are, saving valuable time.
