Ottlar is a vacation resort in the immediate vicinity of the Diemelsee dam and is overlooked by the mighty Dommel with its viewing tower, the highest mountain in the Diemelsee municipality.

Only around 10 kilometers separate the district of Ottlar from the well-known winter sports area of Willingen. You can experience the charms of the Waldeck Sauerland here in both summer and winter. Water treading pool, barbecue station, indoor swimming pool, refuge, observation tower on the Dommel, bowling alley, riding facilities, Dommelhalle with guest room (approx. 400 seats), playgrounds, guest events and beautiful hiking trails with 100 benches can be found in and around Ottlar.
The beautiful hike over the Niegelscheid with many wide views over the Ottlar fields and meadows. The refuge on the Niegelscheid is a great place to rest and enjoy the panoramic views of the Sauerland mountains.

Directions
The starting point is in the center of Ottlar at the tourist office sign. Walk in a north-northeasterly direction to Hai Berg and then follow the path to the Niegelscheid refuge. From here you have a wonderful view over the Diemelsee and the Sauerland mountains. Turn right and follow the Diemelsteig and Uplandsteig trails around the Hohe Egge. Shortly after kilometer 44 of the Diemelsteig and Uplandsteig, turn right towards Ottlar. Stay on the path until you reach the K 63 country road. Turn right and follow the road on the footpath back to the starting point in Ottlar town center.

From the north: Drive towards Hannover and take the A7 towards Kassel until the Kasseler Kreuz junction, then take the A44 towards Dortmund, exit Marsberg towards Diemelsee
From the east: Take direction Kassel, then A44 Dortmund exit Marsberg direction Diemelsee
From the west: Direction Dortmund, A44 direction Kassel, exit Marsberg direction Diemelsee
From the south: Munich towards Nuremberg, Kassel and onto the A44 towards Dortmund, Marsberg exit and direction Diemelsee
