MTB - SKS Bike Trail Sundern No. 46

From the starting point at “Stadtmarketing Sundern,” you’ll begin by rolling leisurely out of town on asphalt. At the edge of Seidfeld, the tour begins with an ascent to the Dörnholthausen Höhe. The climb is rewarded by a challenging downhill trail that leads to the Endorf Hütte and ends with a crossing of the Waldbach stream.

Now begins the 3-kilometer climb toward Wildewiese. A downhill trail connects us to the winter sports resort, which is known for its wide range of dining options and excellent views. What’s more, this is the halfway point in the truest sense of the word. Not only is this the highest point of the tour—
, at approximately 600 meters above sea level—but you’ve also completed half the route. A short detour to the 60-meter-high Schomberg Tower is especially worthwhile on a clear day. The panoramic view then offers vistas as far as the Rhein-Weser-Turm (23 km), the Astenturm (34 km), or the Bielefeld TV Tower (95 km). The route continues along the Sorpeberg on narrow trails. Those who prefer riding on well-maintained forest roads have the option here to avoid the trails. After the “Sieben Wegekreuz,” the route offers many beautiful viewpoints. Alternating between forest roads and singletrack, the tour leads to Dörnholthausen.

We’re back in civilization! Behind the Stockum sports field, we circle the Bergmer on a beautiful singletrack and arrive in Stockum, which is a great spot for a long break. Passing through the former glider airfield near Seidfeld, we reach the transmission tower after some ups and downs. From here, the route heads back down the valley toward Sundern via root-covered trails and technically challenging sections. Concentration is essential here; otherwise, a painful fall could be in store. Passing the tennis courts, we return to public roads and reach the tour’s starting point at City Hall. If the tour feels too long along the way, you can cut it short at Endorf Hütte, Wildewiese, or Stockum and ride back to Sundern on paved paths or roads.
