Is a forest simply a collection of trees? No. From the very beginning, man has lived in and from the forest and has thus shaped the face of the forest in many different ways. A multitude of different biotope types have developed, which are home to thousands of different plants and animals. In densely populated Europe, the forest is the largest refuge for many rare species.
How can technologically-influenced people find a feeling for the forest and thus get back to their roots a little? The 3.5 km circular trail in the Eggegebirge - Southern Teutoburg Forest Nature Park is intended to provide an answer.

Nature experience forest Marsberg Meerhof
At over 20 larger and other smaller stations, you should explore "your" forest through your own actions, by seeing, hearing, moving a little and touching. We want to show you different habitats and details, you should "experience" them, thus sharpening your senses and learning to understand nature by "grasping" it. Bridges will take you over wetland biotopes and bodies of water, while viewing platforms will give you an insight into the nurseries of buzzards and woodpeckers. Explore the inside of a tree and immerse yourself in the life of a charcoal burner 200 years ago. Various works by artists along the trail show that nature and art are not opposites.
The Meerhof forestry operation, which is rich in old and dead wood and managed in a near-natural way, with its meadows and wetland biotopes, has proven to be particularly suitable for the design of a Naturerlebnispfad. Here, many different habitat types can be found in close proximity to each other in a small area.
The starting point of the circular trail is the forester's lodge on the edge of the village. The trail is accessible for the disabled.Admission is free.
