This cycle tour is suitable for experienced cyclists in good physical condition. Unfortunately, some sections on country roads cannot be avoided.

The cycle tour starts at the Sorpedamm parking lot. From the lake stage, the "Am Ehrenmal" junction leads to the monument and Aussichtsturm Langscheid. A good opportunity for a stop to recharge your batteries and enjoy the view high above the roofs of Langscheid and the extraordinary view of the Sorpesee.

The tour continues past the baroque Melschede Castle, the "Melscheder Mühle" mill and the Wasserschloß Wocklum with its equestrian facilities, where the "Balve Optimum" international horse show is held every year.

Another highlight is the Luisenhütte in Balve. This is the oldest known blast furnace in Germany and is home to a museum and a place to stop for refreshments. The tour is rounded off with a ride along the Sorpetalsperre dam.

Information

Directions

Intersections 35 - 68 - 37 - 40 - 35Since 2015, the entire Sauerland region has been signposted with the junction system: www.radeln-nach-zahlen.de/de/Das-Konzept-Radeln-nach-Zahlen/KnotenpunktkarteThe cycle tour starts at the Sorpedamm parking lot. From the Seebühne, first cycle up the ramp behind the public washrooms until you reach the road. Directly opposite, take another ramp up to the next road. You have reached "Langscheid Straße", which you follow all the way up to the village. On the right-hand side is the turn-off "Am Ehrenmal", which takes you to the monument and Aussichtsturm Langscheid. Then follow the Langscheid road further up, past the sports field, until it becomes the L544 country road. After the second bend, you will reach a gravel path on the left that takes you past Melschede Baroque Castle. Continue along this gravel path until you reach the "Melscheder Mühle" mill. Here the route turns right and then immediately left again onto the asphalt road to Mellen. After approx. 600 m, turn right onto a gravel path into the forest. The path leads you to the Wasserschloß Wocklum with its equestrian center, where the international equestrian tournament "Balve Optimum" takes place every year. You now cross the riding facility and cycle past the castle towards Balve-Luisenhütte. Just before the bridge and the Wocklum mill, turn left towards the Luisenhütte. This is the oldest known blast furnace in Germany and is home to a museum and refreshments. Behind the Luisenhütte, the cycle path leads you along a gravel forest path to Mellen. Once in Mellen, you first cycle through a small housing estate and then turn right and then left at the end of the road. Now take the main road through Mellen until you reach the T-junction. Now turn right towards Langenholthausen and after approx. 300 m turn left onto the "Langewende" path, which will take you through fields and meadows until you reach a country road again. Turn right here and follow the road to Sorpesee. Now it's up to you; either you cycle left directly back to Langscheid (approx. 4 km), or you follow the cycle path to the right "Rundum den Sorpesee" until you arrive back at the Sorpesee dam (approx. 11 km).
