The 8 km family hike leads along the lakeside promenade, up to St. Muffert and to the MS Muffert jetty.

The starting point of the hike is at the Heringhausen lido parking lot, in the immediate vicinity of the MS Muffert jetty. Follow the signs for "FW". First, the hiking trail leads left to the riverside path and on to the Florenbicke hiking parking lot. This is followed by a 120-metre ascent to the St. Muffert viewpoint (498 m above sea level), which compensates for the effort with a view of the Diemel dam and the Sauerland mountains. The trail continues along the Diemelsteig trail to the summit of the Eisenberg (595 m above sea level). The "summit and quarry" viewpoint offers a unique panoramic view over the Diemel dam and the subsequent descent via the Diemelsteig trail leads past the dam wall and to the MS Muffert boat harbor, which will take you back to Heringhausen lido.

Directions

Starting from the Heringhausen lido parking lot ("Strandbad-Parkplatz"), the trail leads past the Heringhausen lido and the lakeside promenade to Göbel's Seehotel. Cross the road there and walk to the "Florenbicke" hiking parking lot. This is followed by a 120-metre ascent on the panoramic trail to the St. Muffert viewpoint (498 m above sea level), which compensates for the effort with a view of Diemelsee and the Upland mountains. The trail continues along the panoramic path to the summit of the Eisenberg (595m above sea level). The highest point on this hike awaits you with a magnificent view of the Sperrmauer. Shortly after the viewpoint, leave the panoramic trail to the left at the T-junction and instead follow the Diemelsteig trail in serpentines down to the Ausgleichsweiher pond. The imposing 194m-long barrier wall now looms in front of you. Walk up to the barrier wall and then on the right-hand side of the lake to the large Diemeltaldsperre parking lot. Here you can enjoy a piece of cake and a cup of coffee on the MS Muffert excursion boat back to the starting point at the Heringhausen lido parking lot.
