The Romanesque-style monastery church with its two towers characterizes the townscape of Flechtdorf. The church and convent building of the former Benedictine abbey from the 12th century are a unique architectural monument and jewel far beyond the Waldeck region and offer a unique backdrop for many cultural events.
Starting from the Flechtdorf monastery, which is unique in Waldeck-Frankenberg, the F1 alternates between meadows, small wooded areas, mountains and past fish ponds through a varied cultural landscape.
From the starting point "Wanderparkplatz Kloster Flechtdorf", the F1 leads down Klosterstraße, crossing Aartalstraße into Auf den Hüften Straße. Follow this path for 2.4 km. The route now leads through the forest and along the Bemmel mountain to the ponds on the Mühlhäuserbach stream. Once here, turn back along the western flank of Bemmel in the direction of Flechtdorf. Passing the Hützenberg, several fish ponds and the Rotbusch, you return to the Aartalstraße. You cross the village of Flechtdorf and turn left again at the end of the village into Klosterstraße and walk back to the starting point at the "Kloster Flechtdorf" hiking parking lot.Nice alternative: At the starting point of this circular tour, you can first follow the Diemelsteig trail and walk past the two monastery ponds. After the 2nd pond, continue along the Diemelsteig trail and turn left twice to return to the village center. From the Aartalstraße, turn into the street auf den Hüften and follow the directions above.
