The village was first mentioned in a document in 1082 as "Westhem up de Diemel beneben dem Marsberg". The shape of the coat of arms and the stag are taken from the family coat of arms of the Counts of Stolberg/Stolberg. The ear of corn and the oak leaf refer to the fertility of the soil and the large forest stand.
The Catholic St. Vitus Church and the Protestant Erlöserkirche are well worth a visit.
Special mention should be made of the local Gräflich zu Stolberg'sche Brauerei Westheim brewery with its regularly award-winning products and the Westheim Brauwelt in the Ritzenhoff outlet with its own products and other regional products.
The golf course is a sporty place: here you can play from sunrise to sunset without having to reserve tee times. Number of holes: 18 + 6 pay and play.
The Diemelradweg, which runs along the edge of the village, attracts many cyclists and hikers can enjoy several local hiking trails, including idyllic quarry ponds.
A visit to the Oldtimer Museum not only offers a variety of historical agricultural technology and vehicles and machines from rural life, but also tools and household items from grandma's time. There is a lot to discover.
Railroad enthusiasts will get their money's worth in the former signal box room: the exhibition includes display boards, photos and exhibits about the history of the signal box building. Visits and guided tours are available by appointment.
