The Volme, which rises here, has a length of 48 km and ultimately flows into the Ruhr at Vorhalle.

The Volmequelle lies at 465 m above sea level. In the catchment area of 412 sq. km are the five dams Jubach-, Glör-, Enneppe-, Hasper- and Heilenbecker-Talsperre (which are also nice destinations for excursions). On its way through the Volme valley, the Volme also crosses the other Oben-an-der-Volme municipalities of Kierspe, Halver (Oberbrügge) and Schalksmühle.
