The Agatha Column (Josef Baron) stands in front of the side entrance to St. Martin's Church. Since 1979, this modern figure made of gilded bronze has commemorated St. Agatha, the patron saint of the town.
Four plaques pray to her for protection, for protection from fire, as Olpe has burned down several times. Most recently, the townspeople experienced the horror of fire after bombing raids during the Second World War. But they also ask for protection from hunger, protection from water and protection from flight, which the refugees and displaced persons had to endure after the Second World War.
