In front of the side entrance of the Martinus Church stands the Agatha Column (Josef Baron). Since 1979, this modern figure made of gilded bronze commemorates St. Agatha, the patron saint of the town.
On four panels she is asked for protection, for protection from fire, because Olpe has burned down several times. Most recently, the citizens experienced the horror of fire after bombing raids in World War II. But they also ask for protection from hunger, for protection from water and for protection from flight, which the refugees and displaced persons had to suffer after the Second World War.
