The old Romanesque church of St. Nicholas stood here until around 1870. Today, Denkmalplatz Valbert is a popular meeting place for young and old. The Germania monument there commemorates those from Valbert who died in the war in the 19th century.

A pilgrim's stone at the bottom of the square on the right-hand side refers to the centuries-old Heidenstraße military and trade route from Leipzig to Cologne via Meinerzhagen; in the Middle Ages, it was also the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

The memorial square is also the starting point for beautiful circular walks through the Ebbegebrige. An access route to the Sauerland-Höhenflug long-distance hiking trail is also signposted from here, as well as an overview board about leisure activities in the region.

The circular hike Valbert - Höhweg - Westebbe - Quellental also starts here; a hiking information board at Denkmalplatz provides an overview of the route.
