The Hennesee is a lake of connections and challenges. Located close to the city, it connects the university town of Meschede with the green nature on its doorstep. Along the eponymous Hennen River, which has been uncovered in the city center for a few years now and is lively, a boulevard leads strollers from the urban environment directly to the foot of the dam. And this is where the challenging part begins: the Himmelstreppe with its 333 steps leads to the top of the dam. Those who make it to the top can be particularly proud and enjoy the view twice as much. In the summer, life vibrates in the beach resorts, stand-up paddlers and kayakers curve across the lake. On the excursion boat, passengers sniff the "lake air", while hikers also like to climb up and look down on the water from the hilltops all around. Cyclists will also find exciting routes here; the HenneseeSchleife of the popular SauerlandRadring and the RuhrtalRadweg meet in Meschede. Many cultural sites and excursion destinations in the surrounding area invite you to visit, such as the Abtei Königsmünster and the Bergkloster in Bestwig or the Sauerland visitor mine in Ramsbeck and the Fort Fun adventure land near Bestwig-Wasserfall.

"Personal tip from us: use the Usselwetter for a visit underground in the Sauerland visitor mine in Ramsbeck."
